Project DIRT: Digging into Rural Teaching will share three alternative pathways into teacher education. The University of West Alabama’s (UWA) alternative teacher pathways include: the Rural Educator Cadet Academies, the Black Belt Teacher Corps, the A to T (Assistant-to-Teacher) Model, and an Alternative Education Program which leads to a master’s degree in education. UWA is rapidly recruiting high quality diverse candidates utilizing both on campus and online courses. Lastly, to ensure success, all teacher education candidates will be mentored for two years after program completion.
