Using a collaborative approach that combines efforts across the nation to focus on growing and developing educators, the national Grow Your Own Collaborative has developed a model for recruiting, preparing, placing, and retaining culturally responsive community-grounded teachers of color to improve educational outcomes for students. As Grow Your Own programs have proliferated across the country, the need for a clear definition, based on research and practice, has increased. This panel clarifies the design and implementation of the GYOC movement, lessons learned, and suggests critical issues to guide future work.
